Middle Tennessee was devastated by flooding at the beginning of May, as thousands of homes took on water and virtually every business was affected. The Feed America First facilities and equipment were undamaged, so FAF was able to move quickly to distribute several thousands of pounds of supplies from our warehouse, plus much more from Joseph’s Storehouse, out to families in need and to relief workers. Our inventory of water and Gatorade, plus food boxes and snack foods, was critical in flooded areas as we helped agencies on the ground in West Nashville, Antioch, Bellevue, Bordeaux, Linden, Waverly, Clarksville, Centerville, and Franklin.
The United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR) used our warehouse as a depot to send out flood buckets (buckets full of cleaning supplies) all over the mid-state, And Second Harvest asked FAF to distribute food boxes into areas they don’t reach. Steven loaded up one of our trucks and supplies and drove around to multiple areas in Nashville one Saturday, and Stewart went to Linden with supplies to help, while I shifted supplies to support recovery efforts in Franklin and Williamson County.
This tragic event highlighted the volunteer spirit in our communities as neighbors helped neighbors, and the manner in which participating agencies collaborated was inspiring!
