Millions of children across America rely on school lunch as a source of nourishment during the school year. However, when schools end and summer begins, for 87% of children, staying cool is not their only worry. The bleak reality is that there is no free school lunch for the entire summer break. While many larger cities have summer feeding programs, only about 15% receive lunches through a national summer program. We can step in now to help close that gap. Rural areas don’t have as many resources, and inflation threatens parents who need help to provide breakfast and lunch throughout the summer break. As America celebrates 250 years of freedom, a donation of $25 provides 250 meals for a child today.
