“It’s such a relief to not have to worry how I’m going to come up with money for groceries,” said one woman who was wiping away tears of gratitude and relief as her car was being loaded with free food at our mobile food pantry event in Whitley City, KY on Saturday, April 20th. She explained she was a single mom on a teacher’s salary, and also works 4 other jobs after school and on the weekends to try to make ends meet. However, with the rising cost of living and groceries, all that overtime and hard work isn’t always enough and sometimes there isn’t enough left over in the budget for food. “I told my son that I wasn’t sure what kind of food was going to be given away here today, but even if its just a loaf of bread, that would be ok.”

She was able to take home potatoes, bananas, deli meat, bread, rice, pinto beans, cooking oil, drinks, yogurt, and milk, as well as a box full of pantry staples such as canned tuna, canned chicken, pasta, marinara, peanut butter, jelly, oatmeal, mac and cheese, cornmeal, fruit cups, and canned peas, corn, and green beans… all made possible thanks to an incredibly generous donation by Cleary Construction who sponsored the event and even brought out their employees for a morning of volunteering and teambuilding to help sort and load the food into cars of those in need. A total of 300 families were served. Our dearest thanks to Clearly Construction for your caring hearts and making this event possible, and to Whitley City Elementary School for allowing us to use your grounds. What a blessing to work alongside such caring companies and individuals, all to help set the dinner table for our neighbors in need!
